Organizations with successful employee engagement initiatives are significantly more likely to record and track metrics. An impressive 88% of these companies measure engagement, compared to just 44% of those with lower engagement. This underscores the crucial role of analytics and data-driven decision-making in fostering an engaged and productive workforce.

The full research report, HR.com’s State of Employee Productivity and Engagement 2024, is available for free download to provide critical insights and actionable strategies for human resources (HR) professionals looking to improve engagement and productivity levels. This study examines current trends, challenges, and best practices to provide a comprehensive overview of how leading companies are successfully fostering engagement and boosting productivity.

Further analysis shows 87% of organizations measure employee productivity, but no single metric is universally used. The most common method is tracking goal completion. For employers that find it difficult to measure productivity, using goal completion, even as an estimate, can help managers assess productivity trends effectively.

The top three methods for helping companies boost productivity include the following more traditional tools and technology:
    • document management and storage solutions (57%)
    • collaboration and communication tools (55%)
    • customer relationship management (47%)

"Management's support for utilizing metrics, technology, and AI-powered tools is essential for achieving high levels of employee engagement and productivity," stated Debbie McGrath, Chief Instigator and CEO of HR.com. "To fully capitalize on these tools, we must also train our people, including managers, to use them effectively."

The full report, HR.com’s State of Employee Productivity and Engagement 2024, is available for download and provides actionable strategies and key takeaways to help understand and enhance employee engagement, driving productivity and business success.

The recording of the research presentation, Engagement in Action: From Data Insights to High-Performance Practices, is available for viewing 24/7 on demand.

Organizations with high-quality learning and development (L&D) programs are over nine times more likely to have well-integrated learning technologies. This highlights the crucial role that integration often plays in the effectiveness of employee learning systems.

The complete research report, HR.com's Future of Learning Technologies 2024, is available for free download to provide critical insights and actionable strategies for human resources (HR) professionals looking to optimize their technology for employee development. The report explores the essential role of integration in the success of employee learning technologies and highlights key areas for improvement in L&D programs.

These findings also indicate significant room for improvement in both learning technologies and L&D programs. Only about half (49%) of HR professionals feel their learning technologies adequately prepare employees for their jobs, and a mere 39% report having a "top-notch culture of learning" within their organizations.

“This study highlights the critical need for companies to not only invest in learning technologies but also ensure these technologies are seamlessly integrated into their broader L&D strategies,”  stated Debbie McGrath, Chief Instigator and CEO of HR.com.  “Integration is not just a technical challenge, it can be a strategic imperative for a lot of today’s employers.”

The full report, HR.com's Future of Learning Technologies 2024, is available for download and provides actionable strategies and key takeaways to help navigate  the current trends regarding the application and integration of HR tech portfolios, for today and tomorrow.

Employee experience is a top priority (54%) for HR professionals when it comes to their HR technology features, but new research sheds light on pain points and features needing improvement in the HR tech stacks in today’s organizations.  The biggest struggle for HR is leveraging technology to gain useful people analytics. While most respondents can extract accurate data, translating it into actionable insights remains a challenge.

The free research report, HR.com’s State of Today's HR Tech Stack and Integrations 2024, provides the complete report with insights and actionable recommendations and is now available for download.  HR.com's Research Institute conducted the study with HR professionals to better understand the trends, pain points, and potential solutions in the realm of HR technology.

This month, the HR Research Institute (HRRI) at HR.com celebrates its eighth anniversary as one of the most productive and celebrated human resources (HR) research institutes in the world.

“I’m super proud of what we’ve been able to achieve in less than a decade,” said HR.com’s CEO and Chief Instigator, Debbie McGrath. “I believe that few, if any, other organizations have produced as much quality and freely available HR research over the last 8 years. We consider it a great service to over 2 million members.”

McGrath noted that since 2016, HRRI has conducted over 225 individual research studies, each with a full report of findings and actionable takeaways, averaging more than 25 projects per year and 33 in 2023. The rising cost of healthcare, particularly prescription drugs, continues to be a pressing concern for human resources (HR) professionals with each new plan year. A large majority (88%) express concerns about providing affordable health insurance to their employees. This increase in cost is largely driven by a select few high-cost products, notably specialty drugs. Projections for 2023 estimate the cost of specialty drugs to reach approximately about $311 billion, with three-quarters of medications in development belonging to this category.

In response to these concerns, Aimed Alliance, the Alliance for Patient Access, and HR.com's Research Institute conducted a study involving HR professionals to gather input from a cross-section of employers providing health insurance coverage to their employees. The 32-page research report, titled “Managing Prescription Drug Costs 2023-24,” along with an accompanying infographic, are now available for free download. These resources are designed to help HR professionals and employers better understand emerging trends in managing prescription costs and how these trends impact employees and their organizations.

While alternative funding programs (AFPs) are sometimes considered a solution for reducing drug costs, the study reveals that only 46 percent of respondents are familiar with AFPs. However, these programs raise significant concerns. Notably, there are concerns that in the U.S., specialty drugs obtained through AFPs may be sourced from international channels, raising legal implications not widely recognized by employers.

The report highlights that self-funded plans are especially likely to use AFPs, with over a quarter (28%) of self-insured employers currently employing them,  compared to 16 percent overall.

“The impact of healthcare plans and these specialty drugs for employees that need them is forcing employers to think out of the box to reduce expenses,” stated Debbie McGrath, Chief Instigator and CEO of HR.com. “But they have to examine the risks and regulations of these alternatives.”

Download the full report and infographic to gain insights into the current trends shaping the attitudes, concerns, priorities and skills of today’s HR professionals and how they will be transformed in the near future.

Jacksons Point, Ontario, Canada – Few of today’s payroll functions are highly strategic, but many are some combination of strategic and administrative.  In fact, only 16% of the human resources (HR) professionals surveyed identify their organization’s payroll function as highly strategic.

The free research report, HR.com’s Future of Payroll: New Trends 2024, is now available for download.  HR.com's Research Institute conducted the study of HR professionals to better understand the current trends regarding payroll, changing regulations, new technologies,  evolving payroll offerings, and how employers can navigate today’s challenges to ensure an effective payroll function for the near future.

Findings show that there are areas needing improvement where HR departments should focus their efforts. The biggest challenges organizations are facing with their pay-strategy include paying competitively in today’s market, keeping pace with economic trends, staying abreast of evolving payroll legislation, and dealing with employees’ financial stress.

Further analysis reveals that employers are doing a good job in some areas of payroll.  The majority of respondents indicate that their payroll operations excel (good/excellent) when it comes to complying with laws/regulations (87%), adjusting pay for work in different geographies (63%), and enhancing employee payroll experience (60%).

“It’s critical for organizations to consider an intentional strategy in their payroll function, “ stated Debbie McGrath, Chief Instigator and CEO of HR.com. “A progressive modern approach that evolves with the times and technology will be the only way to ensure compliance and to maintain employee engagement, productivity, and business success going forward.”

The full report, HR.com’s Future of Payroll: New Trends 2024, is available for download and provides actionable strategies and key takeaways to help understand the current trends regarding attitudes, concerns, priorities and skills of today’s HR professionals and how they will be transformed in the near future.
