    The Caring Effect… : Celebrate and reward good efforts

    How might the disciplined practice of celebration change the culture? From my study of neuroscience, I know that celebration has a big impact because it literally works wonders in the brain. By releasing dopamine and other positive neurotransmitters, positive celebrations and intelligent conversations are not just ways of socializing and sharing information—they trigger healthy physical and emotional changes in the brain.

    Grace And Mercy: We should give and receive both

    Two of the most misunderstood words and concepts in our society today are grace and mercy. While some people use the terms almost interchangeably, they are quite different concepts and almost opposite in some ways. Grace means we receive something to which we are not entitled. Mercy means that we avoid a penalty that we deserve. Ideally, we should give and receive both grace and mercy.

    The Dial To Nowhere: How to add meaning and value to your life

    While Dee and I were waiting to be served in a restaurant, I picked up an Etch-a-Sketch-like toy on a rack near our table, a plaything designed to keep little kids entertained while waiting for food. Curious, I began to write on the screen and tinker with the dials. I discovered a large knob that turned like a dial and moved in a slot horizontally back and forth across the entire bottom of the device. “What does that dial do?” Dee asked.
