As companies are opening up offices and making plans to recruit new workers, are people ready to be hired again the ‘pre-pandemic world way’? There is widespread discontent and uncertainty among people with regard to permanent employment, especially after a year of ups and downs owing to Covid-19, which caused nearly 10 million workers to lose their job in the U.S.
At the same time, remote working and working from home are fast becoming the norm, and are setting new expectations and giving new choices to those who were displaced from jobs when the pandemic hit.
These changes are giving rise to a new work culture - the gig economy. Companies are also realizing the potential this group of workforce holds for them.
The coronavirus pandemic shook the labor force and is turning its focus toward gig economy jobs - comprising of on-demand, part-time, hourly work given to contract workers - like never before.
However, where do you find gig workers? How do you recruit them? Should they be treated separately from regular employees in terms of onboarding, benefits, training, etc.? What do they seek? There are several questions that need to be answered and understood before we embrace them.
The May edition of Talent Acquisition Excellence, ‘Themed on Gig Economy’, we hope, will answer all your questions with regards to the gig economy.
