The latest research report, HR.com's State of Employee Retention 2024-25, outlines retention challenges and provides recommendations for business leaders to improve retention outcomes in the coming year.

Jackson’s Point, Ontario, Canada - The HR Research Institute’s new study reveals a critical disconnect between retention priorities and execution. While retention is universally recognized as vital, few organizations are effectively keeping their workforce engaged and satisfied.

According to the findings, 56% of top leadership identify employee retention as one of their top three priorities—or even the top priority. This sentiment is echoed by line managers, senior leaders, and HR professionals alike. However, just 23% of organizations rate their retention strategies as "top-notch" or “advanced,” revealing a significant gap between intention and execution.

The study identifies several key factors that are undermining retention efforts in organizations:
    • Lack of well-defined career paths (60%)
    • Work overload (56%)
    • Lack of skilled managers (51%)
A significant portion of turnover is being driven by HR-related issues, including the lack of proper training for managers (64%) and a poor overall employee experience (50%). This points to the need for stronger leadership development and a more employee-centered approach to work culture.

One of the study’s most promising insights is how artificial intelligence (AI) can be leveraged to improve retention rates. AI’s potential lies in its ability to identify skill gaps quickly and recommend personalized learning paths, helping organizations retain talent by improving both career development and training programs.
    • Identifying skills gaps and recommending targeted training (49%)
    • Personalizing and enhancing learning and development (40%)
"These findings are a wake-up call for leaders," stated Debbie McGrath, Chief Instigator and CEO of HR.com. “To boost long-term retention, companies must focus on developing career paths, improving management training and technology, and enhancing the employee experience, especially as competition for top talent grows.”

The full research report, HR.com's State of Employee Retention 2024-25, is available for free download and offers a detailed look at retention challenges and recommendations for business leaders looking to improve their retention outcomes in the near future.

The recording of the research webcast presentation, Reducing the Brutal Costs of Unwanted Employee Turnover, is available for viewing 24/7 on demand.

The research report offers detailed insights and actionable recommendations for HR professionals looking for strategies to help gain a critical advantage in attracting and retaining skilled candidates.

Jackson’s Point, Ontario, Canada - HR.com’s Future of Talent Acquisition 2024-25 study reveals that, despite talent acquisition (TA) being a top strategic priority for many organizations, most struggle to enhance the sophistication of their TA strategies. The study, conducted by the HR Research Institute (HRRI), highlights that only 21% of organizations rate their TA function as "advanced" (14%) or "world-class" (7%).

It’s good news that talent acquisition is a top-five priority for over 70% of organizations, yet most struggle to develop an advanced TA strategy. Further analysis indicates that skills shortages and competition for talent remain major challenges for recruiters:
    • 58% cite a lack of candidates with required skills or experience.
    • 54% are stuck in a reactive, just-in-time hiring approach.
    • 44% report that their compensation and total rewards are below market rates, making it difficult to attract top talent.
Organizations with highly developed hiring functions, labeled as "TA leaders," stand out in key areas compared to their counterparts:
    • 5X more likely to have five or more paid TA tools and technologies
    • 4X more likely to say that TA is an essential talent-related priority within their organization
    • 3X more likely to use diversity metrics
“These findings highlight the urgent need for organizations to evolve their talent acquisition strategies and leverage technology to stay competitive in today’s job market,” stated Debbie McGrath, Chief Instigator and CEO of HR.com. “The talent war is only intensifying, and organizations that continue to approach hiring reactively will struggle to secure top candidates.”

The full research report, HR.com's Future of Talent Acquisition 2024-25, is available for free download and offers detailed insights and actionable recommendations for HR professionals looking for strategies to help gain a critical advantage in attracting and retaining skilled candidates.

The research report, titled HR.com’s State of People Analytics 2024-25, shows that although people analytics remains a critical focus, HR departments continue to face barriers in designing and implementing effective analytics strategies.

The latest study from HR.com’s HR Research Institute (HRRI) highlights the fact that most organizations fail to use people analytics very effectively. In fact, only 22% of companies report being "very" or "extremely" effective at getting the most out of their HR analytics capabilities, despite noticeable improvements in data gathering and evaluation over the past few years.

The good news is that half of HR professionals (50%) now rate their organization’s data evaluation and understanding capabilities for people analytics as 'good' or 'very good,' marking a significant rise from 36% in 2021.

However, while data evaluation skills are improving, many organizations still face challenges in optimizing the potential of their people analytics. One key reason for this perceived ineffectiveness is the failure to integrate business data with HR data. The study revealed that only about a fifth of organizations consistently integrate business data with people data, limiting their ability to gain a comprehensive understanding of the workforce in relation to broader business objectives.

The study identifies the top three key challenges in people analytics that organizations continue to face:
    • Integrating disparate sources of data – 47% of respondents noted difficulties in bringing together data from different systems.
    • Implementing programs based on analytics-derived decisions – 41% of organizations struggle with turning insights into actionable programs.
    • Distribution and communication of data – 33% of HR professionals highlighted the challenge of effectively sharing data insights within their organization.
"While we've seen clear progress in how organizations gather and analyze HR data, there’s still a long way to go in terms of translating those insights into actionable strategies," stated Debbie McGrath, Chief Instigator and CEO of HR.com. "The challenge now is moving beyond data collection and ensuring that organizations can make data-driven decisions that lead to real business impact."

The full research report, HR.com's State of People Analytics 2024-25, is available for free download and offers detailed insights and actionable recommendations for HR professionals looking to improve HR data collection, metrics, and analytics to help make informed data-based decisions in all areas of workforce management and planning.
