    HR.com Press Releases

The second annual study, The State of Today's HR Tech Stack 2021, was conducted to examine and track the state of HR technology and to understand the required focus for managing human resource systems in the future.

The most common characteristics of current human resources technology portfolios (aka, HR tech stacks) are related to employees rather than HR professionals:  facilitate employee self-service (66%), allow employees to access components via mobile devices (65%), help the organization improve employee engagement (55%).

The importance of such characteristics has been amplified due to the Covid-19 pandemic. HR professionals have had to adapt quickly, using technology to better serve remote workers and support virtual teams.

The free research report, The State of Today's HR Tech Stack 2021, is now available for download. HR.com's Research Institute conducted the study of HR professionals to examine and track the state of HR technology stacks and to understand the required focus for managing human resource systems in the future.

The HR tech stack represents an organization's totality of technological solutions that HR uses to achieve its strategic goals, fulfill its various roles, and carry out its tasks in easier, better, and more efficient ways.

While almost two-thirds (63%) of respondents say their HR tech stack supports the organization’s business goals and strategies well or extremely well, 37% say their tech stacks support goals and strategies only moderately well or worse.

The study also suggests that organizations have been using their HR tech stacks to adapt to the alternative work arrangements that became prevalent during the pandemic. Over three-quarters (78%) agree or strongly agree that their HR tech stack increases HR efficiency/productivity. Moreover, 75% agree or strongly agree that their HR tech stack is good at supporting the needs of employees and other stakeholders who work remotely.

When asked to indicate how HR tech stacks are expected to evolve over the next two years, the most commonly-cited responses are:
    • improve the employee user experience (51%)
    • provide higher quality data (42%)
    • increase employee self-service (41%)
    • improve integration abilities (41%)
“It’s critical right now, as we are still managing workforces with pandemic challenges, for employers to focus on the seamless integration of technologies that support remote work and user-friendly function,” stated Debbie McGrath, Chief Instigator and CEO of HR.com. “These kinds of work arrangements will extend past the pandemic. HR technologies will continue to be important to effectively manage and engage remote employees.”

Download the full report which includes details on eight key takeaways to help HR departments gain insights into how to improve HR technology stacks to serve their employees and ensure business success in the future.

The new advisory board will guide research and the accompanying virtual event on trends, best practices, and where things seem to be headed in the future in regards to today’s internal mobility, succession planning and employee development initiatives.

Jacksons Point, Ontario, Canada – HR.com, the largest network of human resources (HR) professionals, has announced their 2021 Advisory Board for “The State of Internal Mobility, Succession, and Career Development 2021.” The board will provide HR leaders valuable, timely insights on today’s succession planning initiatives through annual research and education of HR professionals.

Working closely with HR.com’s HR Research Institute (HRRI), the newly-appointed board of industry experts and thought leaders will counsel on the most impactful topics and key areas within career development, succession, and internal mobility to advise and effectively guide primary research and event planning. The upcoming research study will provide a detailed snapshot of today’s internal talent and mobility trends, potential best practices, where things are headed in the future, and how these initiatives can be critical to the success of a business.

Organizations struggle to recruit top talent, especially for hard-to-fill roles. Therefore, it’s critical to proactively develop and manage the required talent internally, leading to greater internal mobility. The fact that so many employees work remotely these days can simplify internal mobility in some ways but complicate it in other ways.

The research insights and findings will be published in a major HR Research Institute report and will be further distilled into a two-page infographic. The results will also be featured at the complimentary virtual event, The State of Internal Mobility, Succession, and Career Development 2021, taking place November 17, 2021. Free for interested HR professionals, this full-day event will include webcast sessions with experts and thought leaders.

The advisory board’s guidance will be invaluable in ensuring both the research and the virtual event are best-in-class for HR professionals in attendance, as well as address today’s top concerns.

The state of the industry research will investigate several areas with the HR community to provide a comprehensive snapshot of:
    • The challenges and benefits associated with increased internal mobility
    • How organizations cultivate cultures in which internal mobility is allowed and even encouraged
    • Emerging technologies and predictions about how the landscape will evolve over the next several years
    • How organizations that succeed in these areas tend to differ from those that do not

The newly appointed ‘State of Internal Mobility, Succession, and Career Development’ advisory board for 2021 is comprised of the following industry thought leaders:
    • Matt Adams, EVP, Client Solutions, Insala
    • Jennifer Borun, Sr. Director Product Marketing, Cornerstone onDemand

The majority of human resources (HR) professionals (84%) indicate that the Covid-19 pandemic changed performance management (PM) in their organizations. Almost half of the respondents indicate that performance management processes became more digital and technology-driven and that PM discussions often occurred through virtual communication rather than in-person.

The free research report, The State of Performance Management 2021, is now available for download.  HR.com's Research Institute conducted the study of HR professionals to examine current performance management insights to help HR adapt to the fast-changing world,  especially in light of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Technology was not the only factor to change. In a third of organizations, manager discussions became more likely to touch on issues such as well-being, rather than just performance. Also, over a third of organizations (37%) say managers need new PM skill sets to adjust to remote work realities. Today, the most common performance management objective is to help employees learn and grow (69%), with establishing pay levels and having legal records of employee interactions being less common.

Organizations that excel at performance management processes are:
    • three times more likely to have important manager-employee conversations four or more times a year
    • three times as likely to address employee performance shortcomings
    • two times as likely to use technology rather than manual processes to a high degree for PM
    • more than twice as likely to have a PM process that is easy to use
    • more than twice as likely to have managers that are good at recognition
    • about two times as likely to have sufficient PM training for managers
    • about two times more likely to hold managers accountable for PM activities

“HR departments will have to be agile with their performance management methods going forward considering all of the challenges of our new normal,” stated Debbie McGrath, Chief Instigator and CEO of HR.com. “It will be critical to prepare managers with the right training and to apply the best technology to their HR processes.”

Download the full report which includes details on ten key takeaways to help HR departments gain insights into how to improve their performance management processes to overcome today’s challenges and prepare workforces for the future.

Today's learning professionals prioritize skills development and career development, but they are hindered in these tasks by a lack of good learning metrics. As a result, the majority of firms are uncertain about the quality of their learning programs at a time when learning and development (L&D) is critical to meeting new business objectives.

The free research report, The State of Learning Engagement, Solutions and Platforms 2021, is now available for download.  HR.com's Research Institute conducted the study of HR professionals to take an in-depth look at the current state of professional learning and development in order to help employers improve learner engagement and success in changing times.

As business paradigms, technologies, and market conditions continue to change quickly, L&D professionals are striving to achieve two major goals: helping employees to learn crucial new skills while enabling them to further develop their careers. But they are being hindered by the fact that fewer than two-fifths have the kinds of good L&D metrics that allow them to accurately gauge learner skills and success.

Organizations with top-notch learning cultures are, however, more than three times as likely to be satisfied with the data they collect on learning. Moreover, those same organizations are:
    • more likely to have learners in their organization that had a positive experience, are engaged with learning, and feel motivated to learn
    • more than three times as likely to have learning technologies that are well-integrated
    • almost twice as likely to have learning systems that can personalize the learning experience
    • more than five times as likely to have a learning experience platform (LXP)

Organizations with strong employer brands reap multiple benefits. In fact, compared with companies with weaker brands, employees of these organizations are about three times more likely to say that they’ve intentionally cultivated a brand that is well known, that their employer brand engages and retains current employees, and that their brand reflects the organization’s values and mission.

The free research report, The State of Employer Branding and Recruitment Advertising 2021, is now available for download.  HR.com's Research Institute conducted the study of HR professionals to take an in-depth look at the current state of recruiting and hiring processes to prepare for building a compelling employer brand to help attract and retain the best possible talent heading into the future.

Eighty percent of organizations have an intentionally cultivated employer brand. However, only about  half (54%) say their employer brand is well known. And some companies (17%) indicate they don’t even have an employer brand, although they are developing or considering one.

Looking at organizations that report their recruitment advertising efforts do an excellent job at attracting high-quality candidates, they are:
    • three times more likely to say they’ve intentionally cultivated a brand that is well known
    • three times more likely to say their employer brand engages and retains current employees
    • nearly three times more likely to say their brand reflects the organization’s values and mission
    • considerably more likely to use employee KPIs and Net Promoter Scores to measure and evaluate their employer brand

“Focusing efforts on ensuring a strong brand is critical for employers as we emerge from the cloud of Covid-19 pandemic challenges,” stated Debbie McGrath, Chief Instigator and CEO of HR.com. “Lack of intentional branding and recruitment strategies may not only lead to a loss of good candidates but also to a loss of business!”

Jacksons Point, Ontario, Canada – HR.com, the largest network of human resources (HR) professionals, has announced their Learning & Development (L&D) department’s quarterly contest for micro-lesson submissions. One grand prize winner will be selected, along with 2nd and 3rd place winners, awarding $300 USD to the 1st prize winner. HR and learning experts in any area of HR are welcome to submit a micro-lesson by 12:00 AM EST September 30th, 2021.

The micro-lessons will be evaluated based on the criteria of the competition and application of the HR.com “4 Pillar Methodology.” All contestants’ submissions may be selected for HR.com’s online library of video-based and interactive micro-lessons for HR professionals – content creators receive an invitation to be paid residual income.

Micro-lessons should be geared to meet the needs of HR professionals. Instructional designers looking to learn about or expand on their knowledge of micro-lessons and/or creative individuals willing to leverage technology to plan and design engaging micro-lessons to help HR professionals to do their jobs better are a great fit for this contest and are welcome to submit.

Typical HR.com micro-lessons are “just-in-time training” lessons approximately four to eleven minutes in length with a singular focus limited to one or two performance objectives. Each module strives to focus on developing or improving one skill set. They should go beyond just knowledge acquisition and be focused on how learners can incorporate and apply this new knowledge in the future in their specific role, industry, or workplace.

The “4 Pillar Methodology” of micro-lessons include:
    • Pillar 1: Connect – How will the micro-lesson connect with the learner?
    • Pillar 2: Engage – How will the micro-lesson engage with the learner to drive understanding and teach the content in ways that encourage reflection, participation and learning?
    • Pillar 3: Strategies – How will the micro-lesson put knowledge into action?
    • Pillar 4: Implement – How will the micro-lesson guide learners to implement their chosen strategy and create their own action plans?

HR.com will share four sample micro-lessons. For those interested, HR.com will provide access to a short online educational course on "4 Pillars of Effective Learning Design."
