    HR.com Press Releases

The research study, Creating a More Flexible Employee Mobility Experience, was conducted to better understand how organizations can be more agile and effective with their relocation and employee mobility initiatives.

An essential element for business success is the ability for employers to find and place talent where an organization needs it, and the challenges presented by the pandemic have proven that they need to be agile and prepared. Some organizations are recognizing that need for greater flexibility in their relocation policies as almost half (43%) agree or strongly agree that relocation policies have been updated in the past 12 months to accommodate flexible working arrangements.

The free research report, Creating a More Flexible Employee Mobility Experience, is now available for download. HR.com's HR Research Institute and employee mobility expert and relocation services provider, CapRelo, conducted the study of HR professionals to investigate a range of employee relocation topics to give employers insights on how they can be prepared and more agile with optimal employee mobility policies and processes.

Further investigation highlights the findings that more than a third of HR professionals (35%) agree or strongly agree that their organizations are offering employees more personalized and tailored relocation benefits, and 33% say their relocation policies have been updated to accommodate employee wellbeing and mental health. One-third have updated relocation initiatives to facilitate greater diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) through greater flexibility. However, the plurality (37%) says that there has been no change in this area in the past 12 months.

Although it’s promising to learn that many organizations are keeping flexibility in mind when making updates to their relocation policies, further analysis was conducted to highlight what initiatives appear to be working and may be contributing to the success of these employee mobility programs. Companies that are proven leaders in relocation and mobility are:
    • Nearly twice as likely to say relocation policies have been updated to accommodate employee well-being and mental health.
    • Nearly twice as likely to say ROI is an effective way to assess the success of global mobility.
    • More likely to update a variety of relocation initiatives to facilitate greater DE&I.
    • More likely to say that mobility is seen as a positive opportunity.
“Whether we like it or not, the pandemic has definitely ushered in a new era of resilience,” stated Debbie McGrath, Chief Instigator and CEO of HR.com. “Companies have to be agile and flexible, especially when it comes to accommodating their employees and meeting their expectations, if they want business to thrive and not just survive.”

Download the full report which includes details on nine key takeaways to help employers review and update their relocation policies and priorities to ensure they can be more prepared and agile in uncertain times with optimal employee mobility policies and processes.

The Virtual Care Pulse Survey was conducted to better understand how organizations are applying virtual healthcare and telehealth services to ensure workforce wellness

Two years after the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, virtual care has become a standard healthcare option among today's companies. In fact, fully 93% of HR professionals said their organization offers access to virtual care, and about a third of them said their company had started to provide that care within the last two years.

The free research infographic, Virtual Care 2021-22, displaying findings and insights for the Virtual Care Pulse Survey, is now available for download. HR.com's HR Research Institute and Summus Global conducted the study of HR professionals to investigate a range of virtual healthcare topics and provide guidance and recommendations to employers to help them improve their virtual care and telehealth offerings and features.

The study found that 88% of respondents have seen an increase in demand for such care since 2020. However, further investigation highlights the findings that delayed care became a major problem during the pandemic, especially when it involved the need for specialty care. The majority of HR professionals indicate that some or most employees or dependents have suffered negative impacts from delayed care due to COVID-19 in five key areas:
    • Untreated chronic illness
    • Untreated acute illness
    • Increased medical costs
    • Hospitalization due to lack of treatment
    • Misdiagnosis

Further, seven critical areas were revealed where employees and dependents are most likely to require specialty care, including: infectious disease, cardiology, mental health, oncology, pediatrics, musculoskeletal conditions, and endocrinology and weight management.

“We have seen an exponential increase in the need for quality specialty care from employers across industries in the last few years,” said Julian Flannery, CEO and Co-founder of Summus Global. “These insights from leading HR executives across the US emphasize the criticality and demand for quality specialty care in a virtual setting for all employees.”

“Virtual care is here to stay and I’m confident that these kinds of important benefits will continue to evolve as we navigate our new work world,” stated Debbie McGrath, Chief Instigator and CEO of HR.com. “To avoid the risk of delayed treatments in specialty areas, employers will have to ensure their healthcare programs consider all areas of care and health concerns, and provide solutions that ensure access to high quality care.”

Download the informative research infographic with insights and recommendations to help employers review and update virtual healthcare programs and technology as they strive for optimal employee wellbeing.

The study, “The State of Employment Law and Compliance Issues 2021,” was conducted to investigate problem areas related to compliance and technology to help HR improve their compliance management initiatives.

Jacksons Point, Ontario, Canada – Most human resources (HR) professionals (77%) say that their compliance-related programs are well-funded and proactive, but compliance still tends to be a time-consuming activity that can be improved in most companies.

The free research report, The State of HR Compliance 2021, is now available for download.  HR.com's Research Institute conducted the study of HR practitioners to understand and investigate problem areas related to compliance and technology with the goal of helping employers improve their compliance management initiatives and prepare for the future of business.

Clearly there is work to do as only about one-fifth (22%) of respondents rank their organization at the top of the compliance maturity model (i.e., have clearly mapped out processes that are well understood by employees). Efficiency is also an issue, with 70% spending more than a quarter of the average workweek on regulatory and compliance issues.

Staying up to date with compliance issues and evolving laws and regulations is challenging for many HR departments.  Among the top barriers for keeping abreast of such changes are:
    • technology failing to keep up with compliance changes
    • lack of enough personnel to implement policy changes
    • lack of in-house expertise

“With the work environment and employment regulations more unpredictable than ever before, HR professionals have their work cut out for them,” stated Debbie McGrath, Chief Instigator and CEO of HR.com. “Continuous and strong compliance processes are critical and effective automation might be one of the keys to success.”

Download the full report which includes details on eight key takeaways to help HR departments gain insights into how to be adaptable and informed on employment regulations to ensure effective compliance management initiatives.

The annual study, The State of HR Skills and Education, is conducted to understand and strategize professional development and HR training programs to guide human capital professionals with developing essential competencies.

Jacksons Point, Ontario, Canada Although HR professionals tend to be highly educated, they must engage in continuous learning in order to maintain and update their capabilities. Most (95%) HR professionals have at least some college, and 39% have a master’s degree or higher. What's more, 61% have some type of certification in HR management.

The free research report, The State of HR Skills and Education in 2021, is now available for download.  HR.com's Research Institute conducted the study to understand and strategize professional development and HR training programs to help human capital professionals develop essential HR competencies. In particular, this year’s study examines the changing requirements due to the pandemic.

Human capital management skills evolve and can go out of date quickly. Indeed, about half (52%) of HR professionals believe their current level of knowledge will be sufficient for only four years or less.

Organizations are most likely to suffer skills gaps in these areas of human resources:
    • Analyzing HR data and metrics
    • Utilizing change management
    • Providing leadership in organizational activities

In addition, few HR professionals (less than a quarter) say they have expertise in important initiatives such as diversity, equity, and inclusion, employee wellness, risk management, and international and global relations.

“It’s critical right now for employers to develop their HR team for the future and be prepared for anything,” stated Debbie McGrath, Chief Instigator and CEO of HR.com. “The HR department, as the heart of any organization, will have to be more proactive and strategic with continuous upskilling and reskilling.”

Download the full report which includes details on ten key takeaways to help HR departments gain insights into how to strategize professional development and HR training programs to develop essential human resources skills and competencies for the future of HR.

The recent study, "How Employees Learn in the Workplace," revealed that just 20% of HR professionals strongly agree that their organization has a successful learning culture, and only 37% say their culture definitely supports their organization's learning strategy. These findings help explain why learning and development (L&D) often fails to achieve its goals.

The free research report, How Employees Learn 2021, is now available for download. HR.com's HR Research Institute conducted the study of 328 HR professionals to examine how organizational learning and culture initiatives support one another to help learning teams succeed.

Most respondents (78%) say their organizations use some form of learning technology. However, further investigation reveals that one of the key areas of weakness is that most learning management systems fail to facilitate the sharing of learning among employees. This is despite the fact that two-thirds believe that the ability to interact with other knowledgeable employees can enable employees to become successful at work (67%).

Compared to organizations with weak learning culture, those with strong learning cultures are:
    • More than 5X more likely to say they definitely have a learning strategy
    • About 5X more likely to make learning engaging and effective
    • More than 4X as likely to say that information flows freely up and down their organizations
    • 2X as likely to say their systems facilitate the sharing of learning among employees
    • Nearly 2X as likely to say they have a collaborative approach to learning
“It’s crazy that culture and learning are so often at odds in today’s organizations,” stated Debbie McGrath, Chief Instigator and CEO of HR.com. “Culture and learning should be aligned, as should learning technologies. If sharing information is part of the culture, then the learning technologies should make sharing easy among employees.”

Steve Dineen, Founder & President at Knowledge and Learning Platform, Fuse, added: "This research highlights that learning success requires a complementary blend of culture and modern technology that supports learning every day. Key to this is enabling employees to access learning in the flow of work while also reintroducing the humanisation of learning in a digital context."
