    Key HR.com Takeaways From the IAMPHENOM Conference In Philadelphia


    Hello again to the HR.com community. This is a belated post to debrief the community from the IAMPHENOM conference in downtown Philadelphia April 24-25th. My name is Evan Herman. For those of you who do not know me, I joined HR.com in March as the Chief Evangelist for our Talent Tech Product Marketplace & the “Recruiter in Residence” to collaborate with our HR.com global talent acquisition practitioner members. 

    I traveled last month to Philadelphia & the IAMPHENOM conference hosted by Phenom on behalf of HR.com & our community members. First, I would like to say thank you to Phenom for hosting & the full 2 day conference as well as the private “analyst day” prior to the conference.

    For those readers unfamiliar with Phenom, it was mostly known as a CRM system, which Phenom called a TRM system (Talent Relationship Management), for several years. However, Phenom has grown through acquisitions & organic feature add-ons into a much more comprehensive system into a full blown platform. Now, one of the largest vendors in talent acquisition tech, Phenom describes itself in 2024 as “the #1 talent experience platform.”  Now for my top 3 takeaways from the conference. 

    1) There is a lot of high volume recruiting going on here. If you are an enterprise employer dealing in high volume hiring for healthcare, banking, retail, logistics, or travel/transportation, you are probably doing at least some business with Phenom.

    2) Recruiting in remote locations for healthcare front line staff is not anything remotely like dealing with the challenges of big tech or big banking hiring. It is tough!

    I thought I had faced some tough recruiting challenges in my career in banking recruiting & IBM tech recruiting. However, these healthcare & hospital systems & their never ending challenges with acquiring staff in more isolated &/or less appealing to nurses locations, for jobs that can't ever be remote, outsourced offshore, or automated, have it very rough. I enjoyed learning how many of them work with tech vendors like Phenom & advisory firms like RogueHire to take on their shared challenges together.     3) Big banks like using Phenom in a big way. If ever there is an industry I know and can cover intimately from personal recruiting experience it is banking. By reputation, banks are not known as being too progressive in adoption & deployment of TA tech. I enjoyed seeing so many best practices and hearing about the many award winners from the banking industry and how they used Phenom to solve recruiting challenges going to some of the banks.
