Facing a tight labor market, modern, flexible and generous PTO is a competitive differentiator
Nashville, Tenn., Sept. 12, 2019 – With unemployment at its lowest in 50 years, Human Resources personnel at small and mid-sized businesses are looking for creative ways to remain competitive among applicants, including expanding PTO policies, according to BerniePortal’s 2019 First Class PTO Report.
Conducted by all-in-one HRIS BerniePortal and compiled by surveying HR leaders at U.S. small and mid-sized organizations, the survey found that offering a modern and flexible PTO policy is one way HR professionals can revamp their overall compensation package, outside of or in conjunction with wage increases.
Key survey results include:
Creating and maintaining a competitive, consistent policy was a top-cited concern by today’s HR professionals
More than a third of employers surveyed reported an average PTO balance of less than 10 days
More than a third of employers surveyed also reported that increasing the number of days offered was the top PTO change their organization was considering in 2020
Despite facing staffing challenges related to administering and tracking PTO, only 40 percent of respondents use an online solution to manage requests and approvals
