U.S.-based employers announced plans to cut 76,835 positions from their payrolls in February. That is 45 percent higher than the 52,988 cuts announced in January.
Last month's job cuts are 117 percent higher than the 35,369 cuts announced in February 2018. Through February, 129,823 job cuts have been announced, 62 percent higher than the 80,022 announced in the first two months of last year. The report on March job cuts will be released by global outplacement consultancy Challenger, Gray & Christmas, Inc. on Thursday, April 4 at 7:30 a.m. ET.
March CEO Report Due Wednesday, April 10
Employers at U.S.-based companies announced 124 chief executive officer changes last month, 9.7 percent higher than the 113 CEO changes announced in February 2018. February's total was 21 percent lower than the 157 CEO exits announced in January. So far this year, 281 CEOs have left their posts, 14.7 percent higher than the 245 CEOs who left their posts through February last year.
