As an Adult Education and Human Resource Development graduate student at James Madison University, I am currently reading a textbook called The Bass Handbook of Leadership: Theory, Research, and Managerial Applications by Bernard and Ruth Bass for a "Leadership and Facilitation" course. After reading a section about motivation and management, I would appreciate any answers to the following questions from HR professionals who can provide insight into what motivation might look like within their organization as well as any tips used to motivate employees.
1) What are some techniques that you use or have witnessed that motivate employees to reach a certain goal within your organization?
2) The textbook states that a manager must stand out among their subordinates and maintain a position of constant visibility, despite criticism that may arise from such attention. Do you agree or disagree with such a statement?
3) The textbook also states that the manager must engage in competition, for themselves as well as their employees. Do you believe competition in the workforce can be effective? Why or why not?
Thank you for any insight you can provide on motivation and management within your organization!
