Manufacturing Technician course designed to help local employers connect with trained workers.

On Monday September 11, Northeast Technical Institute began its first Manufacturing Technician class in Lewiston. Eight students began the training program, which prepares students for a variety of entry-level positions in the manufacturing industry.

Northeast Technical Institute began its Manufacturing Technician program in Scarborough in 2016 and has placed graduates at more than 30 companies—many even prior to graduation.

“We’ve been thrilled with the success of this program and are excited to bring it to Lewiston,” said Northeast Technical Institute President, Jim Liponis. “We hear constantly from employers that they struggle to find skilled employees, including production techs, fabricators, and machine operators. This program solves that.”

Northeast Technical Institute’s Manufacturing Technician program provides students with core competencies in: bench-work, precision measurement, blue print reading, industrial safety, technical math, computer applications, lean manufacturing, manufacturing concepts and workplace skills/communication and leadership development. Students then have the opportunity to select an area of concentration in the manufacturing industry upon successful completion of the classroom portion of their program.

Along with the Lewiston class, Northeast Technical Institute also started ten new students in the Manufacturing Technician program in Scarborough.

One of the unique aspects of this program is that many of the previous graduates were recent immigrants to the United States. Northeast Technical Institute partners with the Maine CareerCenter to not only help provide job training and placement but also assimilation into the culture and country.
