    Tips for Hiring Quality Security Guards and Officers


    The perception of security is stained by media, particularly in Paul Blart movie: Mall cop. The stigma and social interaction with security guards who are said to be lazy and dumb affect hiring process. With the guns and high crime rates, selling the security guard post is almost impossible. People believe that the job is unprofessional, involves chasing cars or use of guns making the recruitment venture troublesome.

    Step #1: Post the Job

    If you need security officers, you need to post the job online or in the daily newspapers. This is one way to get applicants so you can hire and also offer training, fill the post and get the business moving. Have a job description which explains the qualifications of the individual, interests and years of experience etc. A good description will attract the best candidates and save you time in going through unqualified resumes.

    Step #2: Think of the Millennials as you post jobs on various sites

    Our generation is full of graduates living in their parents’ homes and can make good candidates for security guards industry. You need to strategies to attract their attention so as they are interested to apply for the jobs posted. Fortunately, they are social media addicts. Have your job ads on Facebook or Twitter as this is one powerful tool of getting the graduates to apply for the post.

    The right interview questions will shed light on the personality of the individual. In security industry, individual character matters a lot as certain individuals may not fit in private or public safety. Create a scenario to find out ethical dilemma of an individual. For instance, ‘what if you find an individual in an area you are hired to protect?’ The answers will reflect motivation, organization, leadership skills and loyalty.
