    Why Supporting Employees Requires a Holistic Approach


    Nearly 300,000 employees worldwide make up Marriott International, Inc, and that includes a diverse group -- Millennials, Gen X, and of course, baby boomers.
     
    After adopting our online solution, the company provided helpful resources on retirement for their aging workforce throughout the last year. These resources help employees understand what retirement looks like and how to prepare for a smooth transition.
     
    “We know LifeWorks helps with our retention efforts,” said Betsy Kiss, Senior Director of Global Engagement and Workforce Diversity. “We do employee surveys and ask about people who use the service. They report increased productivity, increased retention, lower stress, and lower levels of absenteeism.”
     
    This emphasis Marriott places on employee wellbeing sends a clear message to their staff -- they are supported and valued as people, not just assets.
     
    Unfortunately, many employers don’t know how to answer this question: how can I support my employees?
     
    Piecemeal programs and initiatives fall short because they are not strategic or holistic. A holistic approach combines programs and initiatives in several areas like employee well-being, work-life balance, and professional development to effectively support your staff.
     
    What’s worse, many companies attempt to show support but come off as disingenuous.

    The truth is, showing support for your staff goes beyond short-sighted initiatives. It requires a holistic approach to employee well-being and to the employee experience as a whole.
