March 31, 2017, Pickering, Ontario. – The Organization of Canadian Nuclear Industries (OCNI) is proud to congratulate OCNI member Promation on receiving the prestigious Oakville “Large Business of the Year Award” at the Oakville Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards gala on March 29th.
The Oakville Awards for Business Excellence are “dedicated to recognizing exemplary models of excellence and community service by Oakville’s businesses”. The award in the “Large Business” category recognizes a business of more than 20 employees that serves the provincial, national, and international markets and generates approximately $10 million or more in annual revenues.
Nominees are assessed on their business growth profile, their solid business reputation, their innovations in meeting customer needs, and their continued investment in growing their business. Promation scored high marks in each of these categories.
“This award acknowledges Promation’s total focus on customers in the nuclear, automotive, industrial, and defence divisions” said Promation founder and CEO Mark Zimny. “We are proud of how we empower employees and how we have developed strong ties with local, provincial, national, and international partners including universities, trade organizations, chambers of commerce, and social development agencies.”
OCNI President Dr. Ron Oberth added “Promation is a leading example of the many nuclear equipment designers and manufactures in Ontario that support the safe, reliable, cost effective operation of Ontario’s nuclear fleet that powers over 60% of Ontario homes, businesses, and hospitals and has helped Ontario have one of the lowest GHG emission electrical grids in North America.”

Promation was founded in 1995 by Mark Zimny, P. Eng. in his basement while working full-time at an automotive supplier. From this beginning Promation saw continued and steady growth in the automotive sector over the following years until the global downturn in 2007. Promation then pivoted into nuclear--developing, designing, and supplying custom tooling for nuclear plant maintenance and inspection as well as for major refurbishment campaigns for the Canadian CANDU reactor fleet. Promation Nuclear, formed in 2009, has evolved into a prominent custom tooling designer and manufacturer.
As well, Promation Automotive has seen a surge in recent years due to an automation supply renaissance, with annual growth over 100% over the past two years. Promation Automotive has built a reputation as a robust, effective, and reliable ‘supplier-of-choice’.
From its humble beginnings, Promation—headquartered in Oakville--now employs over 90 full-time staff, providing well-paid, high-quality engineering and skilled trades jobs - supplying to satisfied customers in the automotive, nuclear, industrial, and defence industries.
