Attorney Edgardo Martinez announces U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services has extended the Temporary Protected Status designation for Honduras and Nicaragua.

Immigration attorney Edgardo Martinez, of the Law Offices of Edgardo Martinez, LLC, recently announced that the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has extended the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) designation for Honduras and Nicaragua for a period of 18 months, until January 5, 2018.

“TPS is a temporary immigration status granted to eligible nationals of designated countries because the country has experienced temporary negative conditions, such as armed conflict or an environmental disaster, that prevent nationals of that country from returning safely or prevent the country from handling their return adequately,” said Martinez. “There are currently several countries designated for TPS, including Honduras and Nicaragua.”

In order for individuals to maintain TPS, stresses Martinez, they must re-register during the 60-day re-registration period that runs from May 16, 2016, through July 15, 2016.

“I strongly encourage people to register as soon as possible within the 60-day re-registration period,” said Martinez. “If you have never been granted TPS, you may be eligible to file a late initial application.”
