Following President Obama signing the Omnibus Spending Bill H.R. 2029 and the PATH Act (Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes Act of 2015) at the end of last year, more than 50 tax credits and incentive programs have been extended through 2016. Among them are an array of federal tax credits that offer incentives to employers who implement various hiring, training and investing practices at the federal and state level. ADP recently identified four of these programs that businesses should be aware of because they may qualify for additional tax credits, including the Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC), the Federal Empowerment Zone Employment Credit, the Employer Wage Credit for Employees Who Are Active Duty Members of the Uniformed Services and the Indian Employment Credit.
“The extension of these various tax credits and incentives are great news for businesses, especially in today’s economic environment,” said Jeanne Madden, Vice President, Tax Credits, ADP. “Therefore, it’s important for employers to ensure they have the right technology and processes to help them identify and manage qualifying credits. In today’s complex tax credit landscape, businesses could miss out on opportunities to lower their effective tax rate without proper awareness and the right overall program management in place.”
