I’m a traveler. I love to see new things. Bangkok to Phuket.

One minute I’m strolling along Bangkok’s ChakPhet Road at 3:00 AM and come along a jewel of a find: The Bangkok Flower Market. Thailand doesn’t seem to have much variety of flowers. Don’t get me wrong – orchids, roses, lotus, and those famous yellow flowers used in the temple are breathtaking. This place, open all night, was awash in color and scent. It was an unbelievable sight to behold.

The next minute I’m in the lovely Phang Nga Bay with Captain Gordon of the River Tour. While on the tour I landed on KhaoPhing Khan Island to catch a glimpse of the famed James Bond islet. In Gordon’s boat named Pitta (pronounced "Peach-a", named after a bird family), I hopped a few islands southeast of Phuket proper.

Wat Srisoonthorn was my initial destination. I’ll address that later. Something is pressing, and I must get this off my chest. They say, all the tour guide books and magazines, that Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport" is the best airport in Thailand and top 5 best in global. That BKK has the “best” atmosphere, services, and employees with the “sincerest friendly” smiles.

As I’m gleeful and reverently strolling around Wat Srisoonthorn, I ponder my recent experiences. In my repertoire of “memory clips” in my brain, I sort through until I reach one that I realize needs attention. I have learned through my travels that if something is bothering me, it’s far better to address it immediately rather than allow it to fester. A festering wound can leave a scar on one’s psyche and affects the way we see the world and ourselves.

First, a little background. Phuket’s airport handles about 30 flights per hour; Bangkok’s can support 76 flights. Phuket’s airport services ten airlines and more than 2,900,000 passengers, 27,000 flights and 12,000 tons of cargo are handled at the airport. In comparison, Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport accommodates 45 million passengers per year, can support of 3 million tons of cargo per year, and can support 76 flights per hour.

I’ll make this short and sweet: the best thing I’ve experienced socially lately has been my experience with Airport Transfer Phuket. For my driver, Joe, who placed an ice-cold bottle of water in my hands at the airport, to the office clerks who happily helped me by giving tourism advice?

As my flight had several layovers and delays, I was worried that I might miss Joe or one of his coworkers at Phuket Airport Transfers. Happily, there he was, holding a big sign with my name emblazoned on it, at the exit near TMB exchange booth. He seemed flattered by my profuse apologies and thanks. Joe took it all in stride, saying that once, he waited for an Australian family for 3 hours rather than the company recommended one-hour wait.

The car was air-conditioned and clean, Joe and I loaded the luggage together, and he answered all of my questions.

Joe was quick to warn me about the two luggage claims: Domestic and International. If you come in from Bangkok, you will arrive at the Domestic terminal, BUT your luggage is waiting in the International terminal. No worries: it was only 10 meters away out the door. We easily booked it. Joe was very helpful; he was professional in every way.
