Attorneys on the television program The American Law Journal said workers compensation programs may be turning 100 years old, but if recent investigations by ProPublica and NPR are accurate, workers’ compensation has little to celebrate. While corporations and states slash benefits, a new ‘opt out’ movement has unions, trial lawyers and insurance companies concerned.

In an opening feature report The Legal Intelligencer newspaper's Senior Staff Writer Gina Passarella examined the history of workers’ comp, spearheaded by President Theodore Roosevelt, to today’s controversial corporate “opt out” policies taking root in some states.
