Tad Taube, Chair of the Campaign to Save Ralston Hall announced at the October 23rd Donor Recognition Gala that the University has raised $4.5 million to save Ralston Hall, a state and national historic landmark.
“Our mission is to save Ralston Hall and thereby restore what serves as the heart of the NDNU campus, “said Tad Taube. “Ralston Hall is significant, not only for the students and faculty at NDNU, but also for its important role in California history.”
Ralston Hall was deemed unfit for occupancy in 2012, due to seismic and structural issues, with retrofits and renovations estimated to cost $20 million or more. Earlier in 2015, Tad Taube announced the $6 million Taube Challenge asking the community to help NDNU raise $6 million, which he would match, and, as the chair of the Ralston Hall Campaign, Taube would help raise the balance needed for the Capital Campaign.
In response to the Taube Challenge and the Campaign to Save Ralston Hall, the John A. Sobrato family committed $2.7 million to be used to design a new learning commons for students within Ralston Hall. Bob and Marie Gallo (class of ‘57) responded to the challenge by donating $1 million to name the Marie Damrell Gallo Grand Staircase in Ralston Hall.
“The generosity of the Bay Area community is outstanding,” said President Dr. Judith Maxwell Greig. “Ralston Hall is an amazing California treasure which has been the heart of the university and we’re at 75% of our $6 million goal. We urge others to be a part of history and help us raise the additional funds to restore this magnificent historic building.”

Tad Taube is one of the Bay Area’s preeminent philanthropists through his establishment and leadership of Taube Philanthropies, of which he is chairman, and his board service at the Koret Foundation, where he served as president for 32 years.
