    Leadership and Insecurity


    Leadership is not easy and the reality is that every person leads at some level, throughout the various stages of his/her life. The point to ponder is not whether or not you are a leader as much as how well are you leading! One major hindrance to leadership is “insecurity”.

    Insecurity always shows up in a human life. Leadership is no different. People who are aware about themselves and trained can disguise this to some extent, but it can’t be hidden. People aspiring to be leaders or the one’s already in a leadership role, need to understand this feature that’s exposed unconsciously and the impact this can have on the crowd they command.

    Leadership is not easy and this however, affects both in life and organizations. The reality is that every person leads at some level. Basically, people who are not comfortable with their own abilities or people who lack self confidence tend to display some common characteristics that signals out insecurity

    They surround themselves with people they can control – Insecure leaders hinder their organization or their own life because they don’t hire or attract the best people for a job. They find reasons not to associate when they find someone with a better experience or academics or skill or urge to make big in life because they get biased on the decision between their own ability and the unknown future. Hence, they attract people who are notas good as they are coz such people can be controlled easily and without any questions or suggestions. Further they ensure not to spend time with them and empower them. Believe in absolute control!

    They look at those who work with them as subordinates or isolated individuals and not as their own team hence do not empower them or even spend personal time with them. They maintain a safe distance coz they believe interacting with the team spoils/delays the result! Insecure leaders don’t look for the best ideas. They can’t collaborate because they don’t value other people’s opinions. They prefer to let-go extended work relationships, because it’s easier to fill your team with disposable cogs than with teammates you love and trust. They find their identity in how many people work for them!


    They mishandle conflict and delay decisions.Insecure leaders either avoid conflict through passive or aggressive means. When faced with a calamity/challenge they delay decisions and go on a zero communication mode. They refuse to handle delicate issues. These leaders fear of not being liked, so they often ignore the most difficult or awkward situations. Finally when forced by external means they call out their “personal durbar” and bounce of the responsibility to multiple individuals who are clone and enjoy the situation with pride!
    All this traits can be changed in phased manner provided a conscious effort is put in practice and one make the right company!

    Believe that your birth in itself is a signal of victory and you were born to win. Lead your way securely.
