Amongst the 8 new IITs, including IIT Ropar, IIT Mandi, IIT Gandhinagar, IIT Indore, IIT Guwahati, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Roorkee, IIT Hyderabad has struggled to attract the maximum number of top rankers. Out of top 1000 rank holders, IIT Hyderabad attracted 20 top rankers. The number has trebled from only 7 last year. This is quite significant since IIT Indore has been able to enrol only 15 students out of top 2000 rank holders. IIT Ropar got 11 and Mandi, Gandhinagar, and the Indian School of Mines Dhanbad got one student each. The number of top 1000 JEE rank holding students has remained almost the same for older IITs like Roorke and IIT Kharagpur.
There are many reasons why students are choosing IIT Hyderabad over other new IITs. IIT Hyderabad has innovative curriculum, one of the best student-faculty ration amongst all IITs, better placement ecosystem, and freedom to do research from the first year itself.
There are other factors too that have attracted top rankers to IIT Hyderabad. The institute enjoys proximity to the International airport. Plus, a lot of apartments have come up to fulfil demand from the professionals working and living in Hyderabad. New organizations are setting up offices in Hyderabad. These organizations are likely to hire locally, attracting students to IIT Hyderabad.

Nvision is another inter-institute technical festival that is being held at IIT Hyderabad.
Students prefer old IITs and the established NITs compared to the new IITs but the statistics reveal that new IITs like IIT Hyderabad have also come a long way and would soon be able to establish themselves globally.
