    The WorkAround


    [font=Calibri]The Work Around[/font]
    [font=Calibri]Ever decide to do something you believe would have a positive impact on the work or the organization only to find a rule against it or the established work process won’t allow it?  It happens all the time.  Especially in the computer world when the +%#@ machine won’t do what you want it to do so.  And because of these entrenched obstacles to progress the “workaround” was invented.  [/font]
    [font=Calibri]The “workaround” is simply figuring out how to do what you want to do in spite of the organizational obstacles prevent you from doing it.  I’m not advocating breaking any laws or safety regs. but I am advocating maybe breaking a rule or two for a good cause. However, before you decide to attempt a workaround you need to answer these questions:  [/font]
    [font=Calibri]1. Do you care enough about the results you want to achieve to put the energy and time into developing a workaround? [/font]
    [font=Calibri]2.  Since most of the time asking for permission for a workaround is met with resistance from the status quo and the rules police (HR), are you comfortable asking for forgiveness rather than permission? [/font]
    [font=Calibri]3.  Are you willing to accept the consequences if the breaking of the rules/using another process really upsets off the powers that be? [/font]
    [font=Calibri]If you answered “yes” to all three questions, the rest of the process is relatively simple:  [/font]
    [font=Calibri]1.[font=Times New Roman]      [/font][/font][font=Calibri]Apply some creativity to getting what you want to do by expanding your thought process and thinking about similar outcomes and how they were achieved. [/font]
    [font=Calibri]2.[font=Times New Roman]      [/font][/font][font=Calibri]Even better, find someone who has faced a similar issue and found a workaround or has enough knowledge about the issue to be able to provide you insight that will lead you to a workaround.  [/font]
    [font=Calibri]3.[font=Times New Roman]      [/font][/font][font=Calibri]Tweak their workaround/knowledge so it works best for your workaround.   [/font]
    [font=Calibri]4.[font=Times New Roman]      [/font][/font][font=Calibri]Finally, share the workaround. Sharing is the hallmark of someone who really has the best interest of the company at heart. If you are having this issue other people are too. [/font]
