I recently asked a group of CEOs if they could remember their worst boss … (the topic of the presentation was around the brain science of leveraging leadership stress (or power stress).
It was interesting to see the negative, almost painful in some cases, visceral reaction so many people had when remembering their worst boss.
And some of the poor behavior was UNBELIEVABLE!
Best boss behavior was actually pretty simple, although not easy ... it was his or her ability to show they cared, were interested in their employees and were authentic, real people. Not easy when the "rule" is "Keep your feelings at the door when you get to work."
There is a solution ... that won't make your attorneys or HR sweat. But more on this later.
