    You have worked really hard to form the best staff possible in order to make your workplace as effective as it can be. However, hiring the best talent is sometimes easier than keeping them. This blog is part one of a three part series that will give you some tips about how to keep your employees happy, engaged, and performing at their peak. Human resource management can be a complex system, but if you have the right tools in hand it doesn’t have to be that tough.

    Once you have established and trained an effective and proficient staff, what methods can you use to keep them? There are various employee retention strategies out there that you can utilize to try and keep your employees right where they are – and continually performing at their best for you.

    Human Resource Management Employee Retention Strategy Tip 1: Make the workplace culture comfortable and positive. If your employees are happy, they are going to want to be at work and do their best. Hold relaxed dress code Fridays, maintain summer hours, or hold social events every so often to show them that you value them. Give them regular feedback in a positive manner to let them know what they are doing well or where they can improve. Another workplace culture employee retention strategy is to be sure to implement and maintain an open door policy. Show your employees that you welcome their input and take seriously any concerns they may have.

    Human Resource Management Employee Retention Strategy Tip 2: Make sure that company policies are clearly set and that expectations are well defined. This eliminates the possibility of confusion as well as letting employees know what is expected of them. If an employee is aware of their responsibilities it makes it much easier for them to do their job, resulting in a happier work environment. Ensure that employee performance reviews are conducted at regular intervals, thus allowing for continued adherence to company policy as well as recognition for this adherence.

And don’t just train them in one area – allow them to benefit from learning several different functions. Not only does this work as an employee retention strategy because they are able to perform various jobs within the company, therefore creating stability, but it also means that you benefit from a much more versatile staff.

    Human Resource Management Employee Retention Strategy Tip 4: Implement recognition policies that let your employees know that you appreciate the work that they do. These can come in many different forms. A well-defined bonus program, one that is fair and achievable, keeps them continually motivated and striving for more. But it doesn’t need to be a bonus program. Regular recognition can ensure employee retention simply through the use of certificates to celebrate achievement or years of service with the company. Keeping them working is the end goal of human resource management, and employee recognition allows you to achieve this.
