    Improve recruitment processes to curb attrition: TimesJobs.com Study

    A study conducted by TJinsite, research and knowledge arm of TimeJobs.com revealed nearly 60% of organisations believe that errors made during the initial recruitment planning and process stage leads to high attrition. Almost half of the organisations surveyed said that the limited pool of talent available to choose from is one of the key barriers to effective recruitment.

    "The talent market is always in a higher demand and lower supply of "good" people. Opportunities are in abundance, choices are plenty and every organisation is positioning its best face to the talent market, which itself posses a big challenge," said Murali Santhanam, Executive VP - Group Human Resources, CavinKare Pvt. Ltd in an exclusive interview with TJinsite.

    Interviewing is seen as the most effective selection strategy by nearly 60% of the organisations. Supporting the fact, Santhanam asserted, "We have a rigorous interview process for assessing and selecting our people. It starts with a preliminary interview with our 'Talent Acquisition' team, followed by at least 2 interviews, with the business head and the HR Head. Critical marketing and sales positions are also interviewed by the Chairman & MD and the joint MD."

    In the survey, nearly 50% organisations claimed the traditional recruitment process of resume reviews, reference checks and interviews guarantee only 15-20% chances of a successful job hire. On the other hand, 60% companies vouch for online employability tests to ensure that only deserving candidates get through in the interview stage.

    Talking about the mix of recruitment channels used at CavinKare, Santhanam highlighted, "For middle and junior management positions, we go for job portals and employee referrals. And, for senior and critical middle management positions, we augment this with social media. Nearly, 35% of our junior to entry level middle management positions gets filled from our employee referral programs."

    TJinsite's survey also depicted the similar usage pattern of recruitment channels by organisations. Recruitment portals (26%), recruitment agencies (22%) and references/WOM (21%) are used almost equally by all organisations.

    For recruitment strategy to be effective the focus should be on channels of recruitment and turnaround time expected, informs Santhanam. By this the fallacy of over-hiring, which again leads to attrition, can be avoided.
