As a company, how do you stay in touch with thousands of workers who are not all in the same office? What about an airline company that has baggage handlers, for example, who don't have access to computers on the job? How do you stay in touch with them?
Enter SWAlife, Southwest Airline's intranet, a daily source of information for its employees. But the content isn't just available from one source, a computer, but from multiple sources, such as:
- a podcast (RedBellyRadio)
- a video channel (SWA TV) which includes messages from people across the company,
- a one-page newsletter (Today@SWALife) that is shared through blog posts, distributed via e-mail, and posted on physical bulletin boards
- a mobile app is also on the way
- weekly surveys to find out employees' opinions on different matters
- a print and PDF magazine for employees (Luvlines)
- regular meetings with the CEO, about six each year.
Don't you just love this diversity! No wonder Southwest Airlines has been regarded as the highest ranking commercial airline.
