A number of my colleagues recommend mind mapping to improve planning, help organize ideas, boost creativity, facilitate brainstorming and focus thinking. Mind mapping can be done on paper or the computer. Mind mapping technology is available for both for free and for purchase.
I decided to try to create a mind map for performance management.
I included many aspects of performance management in the above mind map, but I am sure there is room for more. Creating a mind map may be helpful when introducing a new performance management process or changing and existing process. Creating the map and establishing links (as I have done in the second mind map included here) can illustrate the value of the process to employees and help guide decision making and communication efforts.
Employees can also use mind maps to prioritize the critical elements of performance management or identify links that should exist but do not.
Have you ever used mind mapping with performance management? If so, what have you found most useful?
