In this inaugural survey, Care.com examines the state of child care—in cooperation with the National Association of Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies
(NACCRRA)—and senior care.
The first-ever State of Care Index outlines the annual cost of child care and senior care, details families' efforts to save money on care arrangements and reports on the tie between employment and caregiving.
Some of the study's highlights include:
- The average family spends $12,445 a year on child care (14% of their income).
- Families who care for children and seniors (in the Sandwich Generation) spend $16,457
- 80% of all parents solved a "care crisis" (when a caregiver calls out, work schedules change, a child falls ill, etc.) by skipping or adjusting their work schedule
- 85% of all changes parents made to their child care arrangments were the direct result of a shift at work
