Competency Mapping is a great technique of identifying what competencies the employees need and what level of competencies employees are currently possessing. When we talk about competencies, we cannot say that an individual does not have competencies but what ultimately matters is that the level. All individuals have competencies, what matters is the level. We can explain the competency concept as an individual person who wishes to be a teacher in a subject biology requires knowledge of biology, has the ability to teach biology and has the willingness to teach biology. If the same person has been asked to teach maths then he may not be a competent person as he has the ability to teach but lacks knowledge and willingness to teach maths. Any of the competency characteristics if missing leads to a low level of the perticular competncy. There are many techniques of conducting competency mapping. I would request an opinion on what is stated above and any information on psychometric tests to conduct competency mapping can be shared.
