The Cobbler's Kids:
My formative years as a Human Resources professional were mostly in a variety of High Tech Companies. Throughout those years I often wondered why the HR departments always seemed to have some sort of psychological disorder. Rarely could you get a straight answer from anyone and most often one person or group within HR had no idea what anyone else was doing. I often pondered, "How can the organization tasked at setting the example on how best to manage its most important assets be so disordered? Was this a case of the cobbler's children? Or was the organization truly suffering from some sort of personality disorder rendering it incapable of seeing what was in plain sight?
For years, I inquired, studied, formulated hypothesis, and researched, trying to understand what was at the root of this issue. My approach, informal in many cases, did lead me to a few very powerful insights which in turn catapulted me into my starting my own HR/OD Consulting and Coaching Business to better share these insights with the people that needed them most, the HR organizations.

The Problem:
In the various HR organizations I see, people come from many backgrounds of study and even careers. You find individuals ranging from having no higher education, to those with majors in communications or masters in social work; I've even encountered lawyers and psychologists. In addition, there are many individuals that started out in call centers, marketing jobs, program managers and even teachers, one day deciding that they would be better suited for the HR corporate life.
