Sourcing strategies have undoubtedly changed as a result of the internet. The efficiencies associated with sourcing candidates via the internet - corporate websites included - are certainly hard to argue with. And while you must take advantage of the advances in technology afforded by the internet, it is still important to revisit sourcing strategies that once were the mainstay of finding candidates. Sometimes as they say...old is new again!
Such is the case with the Massachusetts Biotechnology Council (MBC). On May 3rd, over 50 member companies chartered with finding candidates in an industry that increasingly requires skill sets that are in short supply will be embarking on voyage that has historically uncovered hidden talent ― a career fair.
The advertisement for the MBC in the Boston Globe caught my eye because the Council is paying attention to one of the key steps for making a career fair successful, namely, getting the right mix of companies to participate. Including fledgling startups (new) and long tenured marquee companies (old) is paramount to success. The message here is that motivating candidates to visit a career fair or any recruitment event in today´s internet culture is no easy task, yet it is certainly possible if you can infuse your event with something that is new.
So...how are you mixing it up? What is new in your recruitment campaign? The candidates are curious!
