Using Tech To Revamp Your HR Processes

Here’s what you can do

While Covid-19 sent ripples throughout the entire workforce, Human Resources took the brunt of the wave. As the department that manages employees and puts protocols in place, processes quickly became out with the old, and in with the new normal, before anyone could fully prepare.

Although the drastic changes caught many off guards, it forced HR leaders to think ahead, shake off the stagnant and realize that the solid procedures in place today, may not hold up so heavily tomorrow.

Here’s how innovative HR teams are using tech to revamp their processes now that Covid-19 changed everything, and how yours can too.

Automatically Ensure Appropriate Staffing Levels

During the pandemic, staffing levels went off-balance for many companies between only having limited employees in the workplace to comply with social distancing guidelines, accounting for who was out on sick leave or furloughed, and many other factors.

Leaders were no longer calling for “all hands on deck” and putting all of their people on all projects, but instead trying to place key people where they were truly needed, as well as best make do with limited resources.

While many supervisors were left to scramble, technology could have been their saving grace — easily helping to modify work schedules and rotations and providing appropriate staffing levels when they were needed the most.

Moving forward, automating staffing and scheduling processes with technology can ensure that the right employee, with the right skillset, is in the right position, at the right time — covering all of your bases, all of the time — whether they’re unprecedented ones or not.

Keep Your Workforce Safe with Contact Tracing

While we hope to put the pandemic behind us soon, safety protocols are for now, here to stay. During these challenging times, the responsibility to keep your workforce safe and healthy is paramount. Identifying the individuals an employee infected with Covid-19 may have shared shifts with is vital to ensure that appropriate physical separation and testing is carried out and maintained.

Contact tracing aids administrators and department heads with the increasingly important task of monitoring employee interactions. In the event of a symptomatic employee, contact tracing technology can quickly locate other exposed employees who are at risk, helping to stop the spread and protect the overall workforce at large.

Accurately Track Employee Time & Attendance from Anywhere

If your organization used the clock in and out method to track employee time and attendance, chances are that the events of this past year turned that into a thing of the past. Between workforces going remote and socially distant, all employees using one timeclock to punch in and out became less practical than ever before.

With the use of contactless timeclock technology, HR leaders can accurately and safely track employees’ attendance, while adhering to current safety guidelines and protocols. This technology eliminates the need for employees to touch a shared device by pairing a timeclock with a personal key fob or allowing employees to clock in and out from any personal device, such as a smartphone or laptop, of their own.

Even if your organization doesn’t require employees to clock in or out, contactless timeclock technology could still be beneficial as it saves time and eliminates common manual attendance tracking errors, allows employees to view and track their hours worked, converts and calculates hours directly to payroll providers, and much more.

Better Recruit & Hire Top Talent

It’s no secret that the pandemic sent the workforce into a slew of layoffs and hiring freezes, but now with restrictions lifting, HR leaders everywhere are looking to get the ball rolling with bringing new talent on board.

According to the Economic Policy Institute, 25.7 million workers in the United States remain officially unemployed, otherwise out of work due to the pandemic, or have experienced a reduction in work hours or pay.

With so many unemployed Americans actively on the job hunt, a lot of companies are seeing a nearly overwhelming influx of resumes from candidates eager to work for them. While having a lot of options to choose from isn’t a bad thing, sifting through all of those options can be extremely time-consuming. The technology offered by applicant tracking systems can help HR teams stay on track and keep everything in balance as they automate and expedite the entire hiring process, including creating jobs, advertising positions, accepting applications online, managing applicants throughout the recruiting pipeline, identifying top candidates, and organizing interviews.

Technology plays a crucial role in both continuing to hire new talent during the pandemic, as well as bringing proven employees back from it.
