Chayan Mukhopadhyay & Himanshu Aggarwal, Founders - Qandle

Q: Tell us the story behind the company. What led you to start it?

Himanshu: The idea was first conceived by our Co-founder and CEO, Chayan Mukhopadhyay who had felt the gap in the prevailing HR management systems in his previous jobs. There, he found that the HR tools being used were extremely clunky and disjointed, and it would take employees over 30+ minutes to submit their mobile bills for reimbursements.

In addition, the organizations would conduct regular training sessions on using these HR tools, which implied that the tools were not very user-friendly in the first place.

When Chayan decided to enter into the world of entrepreneurship, he launched an employee benefits platform- Perkkx. When he went on to pitch the solution to HR heads of companies, he saw a major requirement for a comprehensive, configurable, and intuitive HRMS solution. All the HR heads would ask him to refer one. He did a lot of research and found that no such tool existed. Hence, he decided to build one. That’s how Qandle was born.

Q: A brief about the company and its products.

Himanshu: Qandle is an all-in-one, cloud-based HR solution, built for employees. The mission is to build connected, empowered, and engaged workplaces. It helps HR teams with both admin and strategic tasks. The solution offers all the possible HR requirements across core HR, talent management, payroll, and expenses on one interface, in one tool.

Qandle has native mobile apps for both Android and iOS to let employees manage their HR work anytime and anywhere. In addition, Qandle has an AI-powered chatbot solution called Qanbot which can be used by employees to perform various HR tasks and solve their day-to-day queries.

Qandle is a full-service HR solution - right from integrated, error-free, and compliant payroll, to end-to-end business and travel expenses administration for all employees and managers, the solution solves all the mundane and admin tasks of the HR team along with the regular queries of employees.

In addition, Qandle helps with the strategic HR tasks, as well with modules like performance management, collaboration, OKRs, recruitment, etc.

Q: What are the trends that you see in the HR market where you could be catering to?

Himanshu: There are 4 major trends that are reshaping the HR industry and Qandle is building solutions to address all of them.

  1. Role of HR - The role of HR is rapidly changing, from being a support function to being a business partner and a strategic function. The role is evolving to ensure the creation of more connected, engaged, and empowered workplaces.
  2. Remote Working - The new trend is to work from anywhere remotely. With this, the war for talent has become more intense as the geographic restriction or willingness to relocate is not important anymore and the entire universe of talent is available to all organizations. In addition, tracking employees’ work remotely is also a challenge. Qandle is solving both with modules like Recruitment, OKRs, Collaboration, Task Management, Remote Tracking, etc.
  3. Employee experience - With this increased competition for acquiring and retaining talent, employee experience has become even more important. HR is the department tasked with ensuring great employer-employee relationships. Openness and direct communication are valued by employees, and Qandle enables such open two-way communication, even providing an option to organizations to seek employee feedback anonymously so that employees can openly speak their minds without any fears of retribution.
  4. People Analytics - Data and analytics are gradually beginning to be more important for the HR industry, as organizations move to smarter data-driven decisions. Qandle provides actionable insights based on data and helps organizations make faster and better decisions.

Q: What are the improvement you are bringing to your solutions?

Himanshu: We are continuously improving our solution to make it more intuitive and configurable. We are a technology-first company and are one of the very few HR tech companies in the country that has a co-founder who comes from a tech background, which we believe, is absolutely essential for any tech company.

Himanshu drives the tech backbone while we get feature requests from our customers, in order to make the solution better. We ship new releases every 2 weeks, and our product roadmap is visible to all our customers and they can vote on the features, in order to prioritize what they want to be shipped sooner. It is a very transparent process and something that has helped our customers get visibility into what we are building, at any point in time.

Q: Could you please share a case study?

Himanshu: Our website homepage contains video testimonials of our customers, where they mention how Qandle has helped them and their organizations in automating their HR processes, what they love about Qandle, and how it is different from other HRMS in the market.

The primary aim of organizations behind partnering with Qandle is to save time for both HRs and employees, bring visibility at every level, and provide a better experience to all employees.

Our clients include Airmeet, Shadowfax, Fyers, Spinny, Chanel, Vidyamandir Classes, etc. A specific case study is shared below.

Edureka, an e-learning company, decided to work with Qandle, after evaluating 16-17 other HR tools because of the intuitiveness of the product and the fast response time of the support team.

Qandle helped them automate their HR processes with its configurable, geo-tagged and geo-fenced attendance measurement, and remote tracking, which became very useful when the organization had to move to remote working because of Covid-19.

With modules, like task management, to keep track of what people are working on, and a social media-like experience, which ensured employees adapted to using the tool at once, Qandle helped them save significant time, and thus helped save cost for both HRs and employees in Edureka.

Q: What are the market pain points that you address?

Himanshu: At a very high level, Qandle solves the growing pains related to acquisition, retention, and growth of talent, which all organizations face once they become slightly larger.

We are continuously improving to address the evolving requirements of our customers. When the pandemic struck last year, and most companies had to move to a remote set up overnight, Qandle launched remote tracking and task management modules to better track the work of employees. Qandle also modified its collaboration module to ensure it is more suited from a remote working setup.

Once people started coming back to office, Qandle launched touchless attendance to ensure the risk of transmission is minimized.

We ship features every 2 weeks, and the focus is always to solve the pain points of our customers. We are a feedback-driven company and seek feedback from all stakeholders to ensure we are solving what is most important to our customers at any point in time.
