It is time for recruiting specialists to gear up their talent acquisition (TA) processes, priorities, and technologies, to keep their businesses running smoothly. To aid recruiting specialists in what may quickly become the single most critical role in their organizations, HR.com conducted a survey to get a snapshot of what TA looks like now and what HR professionals think it will look like in the future.

Here are the top findings from the study.

#1: Few HR Professionals Give Their Organizations High Marks in Terms of the Maturity of Their Talent Acquisition Functions

Only 18% of the responding HR professionals say their TA function is advanced or top-notch. About half of the respondents say their TA function is progressing, whereas 29% say it
is either improvisational or chaotic.

#2: A Wide Variety of Factors Hinder and Drive TA

The need to hire quickly is the most widely cited driver of TA efforts, at 63%, closely followed by the need to add enough workers to support growth, at 62%. The biggest barriers to TA success are not being able to find the talent that meets the job requirements (61%) and not having the right skills in the applicant pool (46%).

#3: Recruiting Technologies Are Key to TA Now and Will Become Even More Important in the Future, but They Are Not yet Well Integrated with One Another

The most widely used and accessed technologies today are:

  1. applicant tracking systems (ATS)
  2. video interviewing technologies
  3. referral systems and platforms

The technologies that will be most important to TA over the next three years are:

  1. ATS
  2. recruitment marketing platforms
  3. assessments
  4. remote, video-based hiring

However, only 18% say their TA technologies are very integrated with one another, and 39% say they are somewhat integrated.
