Study: When Recognition Budgets Get Cut, What Happens to Employee Engagement?
During the recent economic downturn, many companies reduced or even eliminated monetary recognition programs. What may have appeared as a harmless reduction actually shook the foundation of their workforces, sending employee engagement scores plummeting. 46 percent of U.S. business and HR leaders said they had cut recognition budgets during the economic downturn.

Managers Beware: Tips to Prevent Liability under the ADA
Bob's been out on FMLA for 12 weeks. 12 weeks his job has been kept open and now with one employee short for 12 weeks he calls and says he can’t come back to work yet. Enough is enough, if he does not come back tomorrow, he's fired. No problem right? WRONG! FMLA is only the first issue when an employee is out on leave. Managers also have to keep in mind the ADA; when an employee tells a manager that he/she might not be able to return from leave, such a statement could constitute a request for “reasonable accommodation” under the ADA.

In a previous article I asserted that one of the reasons that people resist organizational change is that employees don’t always trust management. So, how does management build trust? Managers must put themselves in the shoes of the employee and treat them with understanding and respect. Communication is the key.
