George Osborne, Shadow Chancellor, promised early action to cut the headline rate of corporation tax from 28p to 25p, but aides conceded the change might not fully take effect until April 2011.

HSBC's Stuart Gulliver gets £9m bonus as investment banking drives profits
Mr Gulliver, who in addition to running HSBC’s Global Banking and Markets business and its asset management arm is also head of the bank’s operations in Europe and the Middle East, has been paid the stock bonus in addition to his basic annual salary of £800,000.

RBS is losing some talented staff, but maybe it doesn't matter too much
Despite being state-owned and losing "star" bankers to publicly traded rivals, RBS's investment banking division – known as Global Banking and Markets – has performed well and the bank is getting back on its feet. This seems to suggest that RBS, its main shareholder UK Financial Investments and the government have got it about right on remuneration, however messy the process.
