Thought Leaders
Industry Gurus Live
The following interview is a condensed version of HR.com's Live one hour webcast presented by Michael Moretti.

Thought Leaders: Ellen Madonia, Webhire's VP Marketing on the Changing Business of Staffing and CRM

Ellen Madonia, Webhire's Vice President of Marketing, recently spoke to Michael Moretti, HR.com's senior staffing analyst, about how the staffing business has changed over the past years and about customer relationship management.

HR.com: Ellen, please describe Webhire's business model.

EM: Webhire provides end-to-end talent management systems for companies of all sizes, across all industries. Through our ASP technology, we deliver solutions that allow our customers to source and select the best candidates, make the hiring process more efficient, measure the progress and establish benchmarks for hiring activities, and retain the employees who support the overall business goals. Over 200 companies use Webhire Recruiter, our flagship product. Additionally, we offer Webhire Healthcare, designed to meet the unique hiring needs of the healthcare industry.

HR.com: How has the staffing business changed over the last few years?

EM: Over the past few years there's been a slow shift in control in the recruiting process. In June of 2003 the national unemployment rate peaked at 6.3%. In July of this year the rate was just 5%, bringing us back to rates we experienced before September 11, 2001. As the job market has improved, candidates have gained more control over their seeking and acceptance of new positions, while recruiters are having difficulty finding quality employees, such as they were during the hiring boom of the late 90s to 2001.

Based on this shift, it is imperative that Human Resources organizations and staffing professionals think of new and different ways to better compete for top talent. Economic and demographic indicators all point toward a continuation and acceleration of this trend, especially for management and knowledge worker positions.
