The widespread adoption is consistent with the finding that most organizations consider self-service technology to be the most efficient way to provide employees with payroll and HR information. It's a technology that has gone from being an exotic tool to a normal piece of HR infrastructure.
Looking across 12 tasks—from I-9 completion to surveys—organizations with self-service technology were far less likely to use paper or email for submitting information. In two of the most dramatic cases, the number of organizations relying on paper dropped from about two-thirds to about one-quarter.
It's hard to average the total number of hour this software saves HR. That's because larger companies are bound to save more hours simply by virtue of having more employees. Respondents in companies with 100 to 250 employees reported that HR saved about five hours per week on average, thanks to the use of self-serve technologies. Most large organizations save at least seven hours per week, while nearly half save 10 or more hours per week.
