Workforce 2020: Building today's talent to meet tomorrow's needs

    JANUARY 2018
The way we work is changing. That is not a new concept, but what is new is the astounding velocity and scale of change. At center stage is the digital revolution, which has led to new ways to compete, innovate, serve customers and work on a global scale. But new technologies bring threats as well as opportunities. One key threat is the fact that workforces have had a hard time keeping pace with digital disruptions. It is with this threat in mind that HR.com partnered with Pandexio to create a survey intended to investigate how prepared today's workforce is to meet the challenges of the near future.

    HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE RESEARCH:

    Are Organizations Prepared?

As we have seen, the near future will hinge on skilled employees capable of leveraging intelligent technologies, but are organizations prepared for this future? Not really. Only 11 percent of our respondents said they are making significant progress in building a workforce capable of meeting their 2020 business goals.

    Are New Organizational Structures Required?

While the traditional hierarchy is far from dead in most organizations, it is giving way to a more collaborative and networked way of working. This tends to rely on networked information technologies, employee teams and, most of all, access to the rich sources of data and information required to get work done. Networked organizations are driven by the need to be faster and more agile, to encourage innovation, and to break down functional and geographical boundaries.
