When organizations are growing, recruiting becomes a pressing issue for HR. Respondents in this study were much more likely to be growing than shrinking (47% vs 19%), and in many cases that growth was significant. Close to a third had grown by more than 10%.
This is not to say that the days of the fulltime job are gone. Indeed, our study shows that in three-fifths of responding organizations, ju st 5% or fewer of new employees were hired specifically for upcoming projects or contracts. On the other hand, the remainder of respondents (40%) noted that 6% or more of their new employees are hired for projects/contracts, and 11% of firms stated that 40% or more of their new employees were hired for projects/contracts. In several key areas, these project-focused firms tend to operate differently from traditional firms.
HR technology has come a long way, but the integration of systems remains a headache for many firms. Relatively few have integration between their HR applications and their organizations' enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
