    Editor’s Note

We all are aware of the recent ruling, where NLRB dramatically expanded its joint employer doctrine; i.e. the circumstances in which one entity may be considered the statutory “employer” of another entity’s employees for purposes of federal labor law. While the judicial and political processes run their course, it’s high time businesses make efforts to minimize the decision’s impact on their operations.

Counting Employees: The potential impact of the NLRB’s joint employer standard

How many employees does your business have? Are you sure? The number may be higher than you think. Thanks to the National Labor Relations Board’s (NLRB) recent ruling in Browning-Ferris Industries of California, Inc., 362 NLRB No. 186 (2015), many businesses are learning they are statutory “employers” of workers they have never actually had on payroll.

Scheduling Crisis In Hourly Workforce: An inside look

Hourly employees are essential to the North American workforce, and the long-term future of the service industry organizations that hire them. Multitasking?: It may NOT be the most effective way to manage your time!

How effectively do you manage your time? Is it possible to manage it more effectively? And could poor time-management even be costing your business money? For many companies, the poor time-management could actually be a hidden drain on profitability. Think about how much time wasting eats away at your patience, energy, production volumes and, ultimately, your bottom line.

Team Building For Hourly Employees: What’s in it for me?

Team building is promoted in every workplace and employees are expected to become active team players. Retreats, parties and special events are planned to foster cohesion and support among workers from all departments and positions. Everyone in solidarity behind the organization and its mission. Sounds great, and it may be effective for management and executives, but hourly employees don’t buy it.

How To Beat Sunday Night Blues?: It’s time to revisit work expectations

Weekends are supposed to be for enjoyment and relaxation, essentially a time to unwind from the busy work week. Time Management Is All About Clarity: What do you ultimately want to achieve?

We are all time pressured. There is so much to do and with limited resources. We want more balance in our time. I hear these types of statements each week from my clients. But, when I ask one question, about 80% don’t have a clear answer. This is the question: If you could magically have an extra hour a day what would you spend it doing?

Training Staff To be More Punctual: 3 ways

No matter what type of business you own, you are bound to hire workers who come in late to work. If the behavior is not curbed, your bottom line will be compromised, productivity will drop, communication will break down and other employees may even follow suit and demand flexible work schedules.
