Can you design training that allows for individual accomplishment while achieving collective goals? You can, but it takes something special: brains! Brains to understand both how today's learners think and to develop a course that suits that thinking process.
It’s fun to watch your friends stress and suffer through a board game meant for a relaxing Saturday evening. I swear. I have never seen two people take a zombie board game more seriously than these two, both of whom had never played before. I enjoyed watching their suffering (in a friendly way) because I kept comparing them to learners and making connections about game play, instructional design, and observing just how much learners can ‘handle’ before they snap. I probably shouldn’t enjoy using my friends as guinea pigs, but over six hours of glued-to-our-seats gaming, I couldn’t help but make a few observations, including: next time, bring a few extra bottles of wine and never trust Edmond in a snow storm during the Zombie Apocalypse.
No time like the present to bring you the latest trends in the LMS and LP industry. I’d include LCMS, but since there are like two top tier ones and then what is left of the rest, nothing to report – except there are two who, if you love LCMSs, they exist and if you don’t, well congrats you are in the right place. Learning Platforms for me have become a separate entity within the entire learning system marketplace. The key difference between them and say the LMS market in general are analytics and reporting – as in not as robust or strong than say on average for the LMS space.
It’s a new day for corporate training and those who manage learning functions. Today, traditional training programs aren’t enough to meet growing demands for better company performance, consistent compliance, changing employee expectations and cost control.
Whether you are a training manager, learning & talent development consultant or an eLearning designer, it is now time to take a fresh look at your audience. They have changed! The Millennials are everywhere, and they make up the lion's share of your audience.
For over a thousand years, the Japanese have cultivated a unique art form known as bonsai. The objective of this art is to strategically prune the branches and roots of a tree or shrub so that it appears to be a normal, mature tree, shrunk to a miniscule size. What a lot of people are unaware of is that these trees are not naturally that small. Most are made from what would be regular-sized trees, artificially kept small through the selective pruning process.
The role Learning & Development (L&D) can play in the organization is changing. There are great opportunities to assist in success than just offering courses. The time is now for L&D to step up and become an ever-more valuable contributor.
Wellbeing is a topic which has been under scrutiny in the media for the past few years, and as such, there has been a huge growth in the number of organizations that have a Learning & Development (L&D) and/or wellbeing strategy in place.
Global expansion is a goal for many organizations and a reality for others. Having company locations in many countries can help increase the reach, influence, and of course revenues of an organization while bringing different perspectives and ways of working into the mix. However, there are many challenges to training a global workforce that must be taken into consideration in order to keep productivity, systems, and the quality of company services consistent across borders.
