Our world has gotten a whole lot smaller! We meet from anyplace at any time and on any devise now. We’re all part of a global workforce and work across cultures every day. But that doesn’t mean that our cultural differences are diminishing. Our cultural traits to an extent dictate how we behave the way we do, and how to bridge that cultural gap and embrace those differences is critical when working together. More and more we’re meeting with people virtually. So it’s not so much about the visual cues anymore that we have to be aware of, but instead it’s more the verbal. It’s almost impossible to send a message that doesn’t have at least some cultural content, whether it’s in the words themselves, or in the way they're said. Even if it were possible to send a message without any cultural content, it’s still impossible to receive that message without passing it through the filter of our own cultural conditioning. That’s why often times when we communicate we run into problems, especially misunderstandings and misinterpretations.
