Video is literally everywhere and using it as a tool to supplement corporate employee training programs is no longer a new idea. Video will, in fact, continue to be an efficient tool in training development.

Over the years, video technology has evolved into something that can transport viewers to the far reaches of the galaxy or show us the inner workings of microscopic life forms. Video is quite literally everywhere, and it’s been a fixture in the lives of today’s workforce since before they could walk. It takes a lot more to impress our modern learners, so it’s no secret that it takes a bit of effort and creativity to use video effectively in today’s sales training environment.

Remember the time when corporate training or a corporate learning program was executed in the classroom style? All the members enrolling for the training had to be present in a physical classroom. You needed one trainer/teacher to come and take classes, usually during the working hours. Otherwise, employees had to be goaded into coming to work on the weekend to complete the training. Today, it is a different story.

Everywhere I look these days, it seems that someone is writing an article or hosting a webinar on the science of learning (BizLibrary included). Given the annual spending on corporate training, it only makes sense for organizations to want to improve learning retention and make sure employees are applying what they learn to their day-to-day activities.

Successive approximation (SAM) works for the design and development of e-learning because it is practical and manageable. It also double-checks assumptions, promotes creativity, communicates effectively, involves all key stakeholders, and aligns solutions to needs. That's a lot. But at its heart, SAM is a very simple, iterative process that's repeatedly applied to a carefully-defined sequence of issues.

We all went wild for flying bullet points, sound effects and word art. That being said, animation has evolved, it is an amazing tool that can be done to such a high standard now and eLearning opens its ever growing arms to animation and relishes in its successes. Animation can be easily debated as being distracting, and rightly so. Sometimes it’s just not needed that a sentence wobbles on the screen. The trick to using animation in eLearning is knowing that sometimes less is more. Animation is, as said before, an effective tool when used correctly. It can portray a concept that simply words just can’t, it can make a difficult idea relatable and can make a boring idea more interesting.

Social Learning is not a new concept that has just come out of the factory—cloaked in layers of jargons and giving off the appearance of something that is impossible to wrap your wits around. We have been learning socially since ages and doing great at it; we just didn’t know it till Albert Bandura’s Social Learning Theory started to gain prominence in recent times.

Of course, every department that handles data – sales, marketing, research, business development, and, of course IT – is grappling with how best to handle personal information, but HR gets it from multiple directions. Not only are you charged with recruiting great candidates in a competitive time while abiding laws around background checks and social media. Not only must you protect and retain employee information appropriately while being asked to launch wellness programs and bring-your-own-device polices.
