Developing positive relationships with co-workers make your job more enjoyable and productive. Are organizations helping in successfully building these relationships and ensuring that all employees are communicating together in a positive way?
Building effective working relationships is a key consideration for all HR professionals, who recognise the benefits it brings to problem-solving, teamwork, employee happiness and, above all, efficiency and productivity.
Oh, how we fear the curse of the underperforming employee. On our teams, underperformers wreck the work balance and leave others to pick up the slack. Personally, we fear that we might become underperforming employees as our organizations leave us behind.
Not so long ago, most people in the workplace received feedback once-a-year during a performance review. An employee didn’t expect a development plan, a career track, or anyone to take an interest in his or her professional growth. That responsibility was often a solo activity. More than 63 million people changed or separated from their jobs in 2017. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, this marks the highest annual turnover in nearly two decades. Even as employees enter and exit organizations at a high rate, employer-employee relationships have evolved. These relationships are no longer finite; they often start with recruiting, but no longer end when an employee leaves the company.
A performance skill gap refers to the gap between the skills that an organization requires and the skillset of its existing employees. If there is a huge skill gap, then the organization will not be able to remain productive or competitive. Every company needs the right skills to help them drive its business according to its mission and vision. There will be significant signs of performance gaps, and you need to take them seriously.
