In today’s robust economy, levels of employment are at their highest in recent years, making it increasingly difficult for companies to meet their staffing needs.
Companies are spending a lot of time, energy and money seeking to acquire the talent needed to carry out their organizations’ goals, while simultaneously losing substantial numbers of people as job hopping is omnipresent. Successful firms look far beyond pay as an effective countermeasure to retain employees in this new economy.
The cover article of this month, Gary Felsten and Arnold Perl's How To Hire And Keep The Best Talent?, talks about why building a more positive, trust-based culture by focusing on values and improving the interpersonal skills of managers results in more positive relationships among people and considerably less turnover.
So many pieces of the hiring process have evolved to keep pace with increased modernization in the workplace. Online job boards, social recruiting, and employer branding are all advents of technological progress. However, relics of a time before these technological advances still plague the hiring process, making it more cumbersome and tedious than it needs to be.
