    Use Your Applicant Tracking System To Provide A Positive Candidate Experience

    Your ATS is a powerful tool when utilized to its fullest potential. A strong ATS not only provides your hiring managers with more on-target resumes, it provides a seamless application experience for your candidates. That explains why selecting the right system for your business is an important, yet challenging task. 



    Take into consideration the following three areas to help you determine which ATS is best for your business and the candidate experience you’d like to create.
    • CRM (Candidate Relationship Management) Nurturing
    • ATS (Applicant Tracking System)
    • Onboarding Technology

    CRM (Candidate Relationship Management) Nurturing

    Using a CRM tool to build and nurture your talent pools provides ongoing engagement opportunities with potential candidates. In some cases, the information that you provide can be just as important as the positions you are looking to fill. In order to keep the conversation going, provide your candidates with relevant information that is of value to them. Or, include a shameless plug about your organization’s fundraising or community efforts that will allow your talent pool to get a better understanding of your company and its values. 

    So how do you go about providing your candidates information? Start thinking and acting as a marketing agency! Reach out to the talent you already have to find out what types of industry articles your managers are reading. Ask your internal employees to act as a feeder system of information that may be of interest to the audience. From there, you can layer in job postings, but the relevant information that you share is what will keep the talent engaged. 

    ATS (Applicant Tracking System)

    After your CRM tools have piqued the interest of a top passive candidate, you don’t want to lose them throughout the ATS process. The following tips will allow for a seamless journey through the candidate’s application process:
    • Layout each step of the interview process and provide a timeline. This allows you to set accurate expectations for the candidates so that there are no surprises. 
    • Ensure that your application process is short with a limited number of clicks. On average, it should take about 15 minutes to complete the application with approximately 4 to 5 clicks.
    • Your ATS should be responsive (desktop, mobile and tablet friendly). 
    • Allow for feedback, positive or negative, in a timely manner. This feedback, even if it’s automated, should be personalized for the candidate. 
    • Notify the candidate when the position has been filled. As a courtesy, close the loop preventing any potential damage to your talent pool. 

    Onboarding Technology

    Great News! Your candidate has accepted the position. It’s time to begin the onboarding process. If your ATS is properly integrated with your HRIS system, the transition into onboarding will be seamless. The new employees’ documentation, workstation, computer, phone, email and network configurations will be prepared for their first day on the job. 

    Finally, once your new employee has started, don’t forget the details. Go the extra mile and ensure that their first days are welcoming and friendly. That will surely set the stage for how your employee will perceive the company far beyond the early days of onboarding.
