Each year, nearly 200,000 veterans leave their posts and enter (or return to) the civilian workforce, bringing with them a wealth of soft skills such as leadership, adaptability, discipline, performance under pressure and high levels of organizational skills. These veterans represent an impressive pool of highly marketable candidates that private industry can tap into—if they have the right recruiting strategy in place.

The state of the economy and employment continues to dominate the media, just as it has since 2007 when the decline began. Each year, companies spend thousands of dollars on recruiting the right talent for their organizations. Some employ teams of qualified recruiters and sourcers, some enlist the help of RPOs, and some use recruiting agencies. Even a two-person start-up that spends a few hours searching a job board for a qualified candidate to fill a role has invested time in recruiting that could otherwise have been spent accomplishing other tasks.
