George Floyd's death, in May, sparked a worldwide protest and intensified the focus on the discussion over racism and inequality. It also gave a push to the 'internal soul searching' in corporate America as many incidences of workplaces discrimination were reported following the incident.
Big corporations toughened their stance and tightened policies to foster a diverse and inclusive workplace since May. In the past couple of months, we also saw some top-level departures, including that of Greg Glassman (former CEO of CrossFit), owing to racial and gender insensitivity.
Were these efforts sufficient to build a workplace environment that is more open to diversity? No. Corporate America will have to wait more.
The recent incidents of Adidas, Nike and Facebook highlight the fact that the corporate world still lacks sensitivity and there is a lot to be done.
Karen Parkin's, the former HR Head at Adidas, exit also brings to the fore the lack of female diversity in leading corporate positions.
Where does the problem lie? What do companies lack in their diversity and inclusion efforts? How is it hurting them?
We bring you a Themed Edition on Diversity & Inclusion, this month, featuring several articles that should be able to answer these and more.
Featured on the Cover is Recruitee's Adrie Smith's Could This Finally Be HR’s Year? Also check out our Top Picks, Is Hiring For Culture Fit Doing More Harm Than Good? by Tim Driscoll from Inspire Software, Hiring Priorities: The Shift From Candidate Experience To Retention And Diversity by Ben Eubanks from Lighthouse and 3 Strategies To Make Diversity And Inclusion Training Successful by Trent Howell from eLearning Brothers, among others.
Included in this edition is HR Research Institute's The State of Diversity & Inclusion 2020 report. It talks about how organizations might become more successful in fostering a culture of diversity.
We hope the July edition of Talent Acquisition Excellence will help you find excellence in your recruiting, hiring and onboarding efforts.
As always, happy reading and don't forget to send us your feedback.
