If one thing is certain during the current COVID-19 crisis, it’s the uncertainty the pandemic brought to job security and Americans’ feelings towards their jobs in general.
The Covid19 pandemic has had a huge and immediate impact on work and the workforce. The crisis has disrupted entire industries, by putting millions of people out of work, forcing them to work from home, or work as an essential worker on the frontlines risking exposure to the virus.
Fostering a diverse, inclusive environment starts before an employee shows up (or logs on!) for their first day of work. Acquiring talent with diverse backgrounds requires deliberate introspection, attention to unconscious biases that affect decisions, and understanding applicants’ legal rights.
This is something I wrote a few years ago…. As we all grapple with the murder of George Floyd and a myriad of African American people by the police and others I thought this again had relevance, pertinence, and was worth re-exploring. I have visited this and updated it for today.
Diversity is inviting people to the party, but inclusion is asking them to dance. Diversity and inclusion are often used synonymously, but that's a common mistake.
Even before COVID-19, because of an aging global population, there was a severe global shortage of healthcare professionals. As COVID continued to evolve into a full blown pandemic, the need for healthcare professionals rose to levels that many institutions were unable to keep up with.
